So, this weekend will be filled with a lot of running around and finalizing the nursery because this mama almost had to have her baby this weekend. Yep. You read that correctly. Here's the story but before I begin let me preface with... baby is fine, actually she's great! I am fine just having some issues with blood pressure.
Last week at my baby shower on Saturday, I complained to my mom and dad about these headaches I was getting... well needless to say they were pretty stern about me getting my blood pressure checked. I procrastinated until Monday night when J and I were in Publix to do some grocery shopping. I decided to use that automatic blood pressure cuff... which random thought but I hate those things. I have this weird unreasonable fear that in some sort of final destination twist of events the machine continues to tighten around my arm cutting off circulation and making my head explode.
I digress.
So, I sit down to check my blood pressure... not so good. It was about 150/100. I waited a while and tried it again... still about the same. Jerrod encouraged me to call the doc the next morning. So, the next morning I get to work and am debating calling. I had an appointment scheduled for Thursday so I thought I might could just wait until then, but I decide to call them any way. After leaving a rather apologetic message on the nurse's line, I get a quick call back (about 15 minutes later)... that was surprising b/c they normally don't call back until the afternoon. The nurse starts asking me a series of questions and does not seem pleased with my answers. To make a very long story short...
The nurse calls me back a few minutes later after consulting with my doctor and tells me to head to triage to get monitored. So to triage I head where I end up for 3 hours. Needless to say they ran several tests on me that didn't all come back with gold stars. I was ordered to stay overnight to be monitored. My doc came in that afternoon and said that if things didn't get a little better I would probably have to have her this weekend. They had done an ultrasound on her and said she looked perfect... it was my body that was getting tired of being pregnant (amen body).
Luckily it did not come to that. My tests got better along with my blood pressure. My doctor concluded that she does not want me to carry her any longer than 37 to 38 weeks. That's two weeks away people! She also said that it would be touch and go from here on out... I took that as her saying that with each appointment we will reassess my blood pressure issues. I love my doctor by the way! She is amazing! She said that this is basically weighing the benefits of letting baby fatten up versus putting my body through the stress it is feeling.
So now, I have an appointment on Tuesday where they will do another ultrasound to check on the baby, and we will hopefully be scheduling an induction between Aug. 12 and 19. I say hopefully meaning that hopefully we will be able to keep her in the belly to fatten up a bit longer.
To say this isn't exactly how I saw things going, is an understatement. But our God is so good! I am so grateful that I got to leave that hospital with this little girl still inside me. As excited as I am to meet her, I am even more excited that she gets to fatten up a bit more and I get a few days to gather my thoughts and help get the house and nursery and my brain more organized. Ha!
I will be sure to keep you all updated!
