One Incredible Toddler Bed!!!

We are currently working hard on getting Zoey's "Big Girl" room ready.  We originally had Zoey in the smallest bedroom of our house (which I think was technically designed as a study) right next to our bedroom.  It was convenient for late night feedings and diaper changes and fussing.  Now that Norah is on the way we decided to keep that nursery just as it is.  We really love the way it turned out and figured why not leave well enough alone.  So, that led us to start thinking through moving Zoey into one of the rooms on the other side of the house.  Naturally we wanted this to be a fun transition for her, not a "alrighty kid, a baby's comin' so you get the boot" kind of experience.  So we are trying to make her new room as fun and kid-friendly as possible.

We currently have one crib that does not transition to a toddler bed, so we started thinking through the whole toddler bed situation.  We decided, naturally because J is such a great carpenter, that he should build her toddler bed.  Little did I know what an amazing creation he would come up with, although I had no doubt I would be impressed.  Y'all, I'm just going to brag on my hubs for a minute... the man is insanely talented in many ways.  Although he is a full time music minister, carpentry is his trade.  And he is good.  But he is so humble, he would never create a blog post just to brag on himself, so I am. ;)  It's my right... right???

He first started scetching ideas and I told him the kind of style I was thinking for the room which we were both on board with.  We knew we wanted to do something very unique... a twist on a daybed... a daybed for a toddler... with a fabric headboard.  How cool would that be?  So that is what he designed.  I won't get into all the tiny details of his creation (you are welcome to ask in the comment section and I will gladly share) but lets just say he is incredibly resourceful and just down right handy so this is what he came up with.  Every bit of this was made by him except the legs which he purchased from Lowe's. He even did the headboard all on his own.

Here are the ingredients to his creation:
plywood, reclaimed lumber (pallets), beadboard, batting, foam and upholstry fabric from JoAnn's.

I can't wait to show you all the final product with her new bedding on it!!!  This is just a fitted sheet I had from her nursery bedding.

Also, if anyone is interested... J does make and sell furniture and take on custom trim carpentry projects.  Simply comment with your info and we will get in touch with you!
