Happy 1st Birthday!

Today, Coosa Puppy Man turned 1 year old! I know it probably sounds so silly, but he has grown up so fast.I got him when he was only 8 weeks.

He had just turned old enough to adopt. I was walking through a humane shelter in Tuscaloosa looking for a dog, not a puppy. Suddenly, I was about to leave b/c I didn't seem to like any of the dogs that were there, and I looked to my left. There in the corner was a column of rusty old kennels. In the top cage (aka most pitiful excuse for a home I have ever seen at a humane shelter) was a little puppy that lifted his head and proceeded to let out the most precious sneeze. He looked so sad, lonely, and desperate to get out of there. I turned to the man letting me hold the doggies and asked if I could just hold this little guy so he could simply get out of the cage. "I will never get him", I thought to myself. Boy was I wrong!

We walked into the adoption room where you play with the dogs. The man put the little squirmy man on the floor. He ran across the room to me and ducked his head between my leg and the floor. Suddenly he looked up at me with the biggest brown eyes and took off toward my purse. He grabbed it by the strap and proceeded to drag it around the room. He tugged on it with me. Then he peed on the floor. Ran up to me and licked me. Then ran back to my purse and tried to crawl up in it. The end. I was not going to let this little guy go back in that disgusting cage for another second.

We have come a long way in the past 10 months together. He has been there for me when I was crying b/c I missed Jerrod. He was there during the whole wedding planning process. He accompanied everywhere I went. We went to get my car washed together. We drove back and forth to and from Tuscaloosa together. He would swim with the girls at Dana's pool. And, although he woke me up every morning at 4:30am and took months to fully house train, I wouldn't trade him for the world's supply of clean carpet and Candie's pantent leather shoes.

Hey! Charlie ate a pair of Candie's patent leather shoes when he was a pup too! Funny thing, actually... he ate the left shoe only and I loved those shoes so much I went out and found another pair. One week later - he ate the left shoe again....

I still have both right shoes, the strap scraps and a glimmer of hope that ONE DAY I'll meet a shoe guru...

Cute post! Happy Bday Coosa!

What is it with pups and Candie's? One thing about it though, they sure have good taste (ha... shameful pun I know). He unfortunately did not stop at one shoe. He went for both and there was no hope. I think he even ingested some of them. Let me know if you ever find that guru!
