The Bunny Bit Me... Well, Not Really

Tonight I, for the first time got to experience the awesomeness of Petland! I held probably 5 puppies, bunnies, etc. It was the coolest place. You could just walk up and pick up any bunny or rat you wanted. You could go over to one side and ask the nice, but reasonably annoyed, puppy assistant to hold one of the adorable creatures. It was like the best pet zoo ever! Not nearly as smelly and a lot more clean! Despite my fascination, there were two main things that disturbed me.

First of all, there weren't very many puppies and none under $500. I understand that they are probably full blooded, but still. As if paying for food, medicine, etc. isn't enough for a puppy, why not make people pay at least $300 more than they should making it that much harder for them to care for the defenseless animals that so obviously want a warm, welcoming home to reside in? I mean that makes sense. People complain that animals don't have homes, but they make it near to impossible to purchase the animals.

Secondly, why in the world do parents, who have no intention of letting their kids have a pet, bring them to Petland. Doesn't that qualify as cruel and unusual punishment? They should know that the kid is going to want a puppy. I mean at least take them to a place where the animals are not purchasable, like a zoo. Nooo! NO! No! Take them to Petland where they know the bunnies are $19.95 and let them pet them, but not have them. I spent 5 minutes trying to help a mom convince a boy he really didn't want a bunny. Finally, after viewing the frustration and shame in the mother's eye I yelped out an "Oww! It bit me!" The mother quickly turned to her 10 year old son and said with relief, "See they bite." She quickly turned to me and mouthed a quick thank you as her son headed for the door.

Sorry for the ranting! Phew! [deep breath] I feel much better!

P.S. I am hoping to have some super good news for you guys in a few days, so stay tuned!!!
